Paint is a mechanically bonded surface coating that provides a barrier film between steel and the environment. A paint system involves the use of several layers of coating, and sometimes, different formulations of paint, depending on the type of environment in which the structure will be exposed.
The coatings in tanks responsible for carrying crude oil, chemicals, or other liquids must protect the underlying steel from corrosion and must be inert toward the products they contact. Epoxy polyamines, epoxy polyamide, epoxy phenolics, high-build solvent-free urethane and inorganic zinc are typically used in these spaces.
Supporting and moving loads weighing several thousand tons and measuring up to 300 meters in length - for shipyards, the safe handling of extremely heavy loads is part of day-to-day operations. This is conducted under extreme time pressure. Therefore, the technology must always be available and highly reliable.
